La Spezia bunker prices

Estimated · VLSFO · not observed at La Spezia
$527–$571/MT

Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at La Spezia, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.

Why there is no assessment here yet

Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.

No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.

Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at La Spezia

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

La Spezia sits at the head of a sheltered gulf of about 1,500 hectares, closed off by a breakwater roughly 2.2 km long and lined with some 5.1 km of quays; it is mainly a container and cruise port (Wikipedia). Bunkering is governed by the Harbour Master (Capitaneria) together with the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port Authority, which wrote the rulebook that made La Spezia the first Italian port to bunker LNG.

That LNG operation is the best-documented case: at the Garibaldi Ovest quay the supply barge Coral Methane fed the cruise ship Costa Smeralda about 2,400 m3 of LNG at up to 630 m3/h, under Port Authority authorisation no. 17 of 21 October 2020 (Corriere Marittimo). For conventional fuel oil, how it is delivered, where in the gulf it may be taken, the notice required and the maximum stem are not set out in the sources here, and remember that EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime now add compliance cost, so treat the operational detail as questions for your supplier and the Capitaneria.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • How conventional fuel oil is delivered at La Spezia (barge, alongside or at anchor) is not described in the sources read.
  • The anchorage areas open to bunkering and any advance-notice period are not set out in the sources read.
  • No maximum conventional stem size for La Spezia was found in the sources read.
  • Which specific berths beyond Garibaldi Ovest are cleared for bunkering is not stated in the sources read.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

VLSFO observed at the 6 nearest priced ports

The working behind the estimate above.

Those are prices at those ports, not at La Spezia, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

La Spezia bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at La Spezia today?
No price is published at La Spezia. The closest port where one is, is Livorno, about 40 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $549 a tonne.
Is La Spezia a cheap bunkering port?
Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
Does EU ETS apply at La Spezia?
La Spezia is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
