Taking fuel at Valencia
Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.
At Valencia, conventional bunkers are supplied afloat by tanker vessel or barge (gabarra) delivering through a hose, or ashore by road tanker; the framework is the Port Authority of Valencia's tender conditions covering Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia jointly. Supply barges must be cleared (despachados) by the Capitania Maritima and may remain in the port's Zone II only while a supply is under way, then return to a Zone I berth or leave Zone II; they berth at points the port's Operations Department assigns. Each supply barge must carry pollution gear: 250 m of containment boom with couplings matching the Port Authority's, a mechanical oil-recovery unit, and absorbent for a 1,000-litre spill. Deliveries follow MARPOL Annex VI Reg. 18 (bunker delivery note and retained sample). Supplying any product more flammable than marine fuel or lube oil, such as gasoline or naphtha, needs special APV authorization requested at least 24 hours ahead. LNG is delivered truck-to-ship (multi-truck) and, under a February 2026 APV authorization, ship-to-ship by tanker vessel.
- The APV tender conditions set no maximum bunker stem size or delivery flow rate for a supply barge.
- The conditions cover Valencia together with Sagunto and Gandia; the specific bunkering position is assigned case by case by the Operations Department, not published.
- The 24-hour advance petition documented applies to special authorization for more-flammable products (gasoline, naphtha), not necessarily to a routine fuel-oil stem.
- ECA 0.10% sulphur, EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime obligations are EU-level and are not set out in the APV tender conditions.
Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.
A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
Valencia bunkering FAQ
- What is the bunker price at Valencia today?
- The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Valencia (ESVLC) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
- Is Valencia a cheap bunkering port?
- Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
- Does EU ETS apply at Valencia?
- Valencia is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
