Taking fuel at Emden
Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.
Bunkers in Emden are supplied by barge or truck — no pipeline delivery. All grades of oil are available; Weert Ihnen GmbH & Co. KG delivers via bunker barge HERRENTOR from its ~9,000 m³ tank depot in the Emden industrial port (fuel oil, diesel, GTL, bunker gas oil), with night fuelling possible. Water-polluting substances may only be dispensed from fixed installations, bunker boats or tank trucks with adequate safety equipment. Bunkering must be announced to NPorts in advance, and a Pre-Transfer-Checklist provided by the bunker supplier must be completed and signed by both the ship's engineer on duty and the barge skipper/truck driver before transfer commences. Cargo handling and bunkering are permitted only on designated areas. Emden lies in a North Sea ECA, so low-sulphur fuel rules (MARPOL Annex VI) apply, and EU ETS applies to voyages calling here. Ships must report arrival to NPorts at least 24 hours before entering port (immediately upon departure from the last port if steaming time is under 24 hours).
- typical stem time / delivery lead time
- bunker quantity quality (BQA) sampling practice
- whether barging at anchorage roads is offered
- current ETS allowance costs
- specific sulphur compliance verification procedure at port
Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
Emden bunkering FAQ
- What is the bunker price at Emden today?
- The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Emden (DEEMD) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
- Is Emden a cheap bunkering port?
- At the last update Emden was showing $917/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
- Does EU ETS apply at Emden?
- Emden is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
