Kiel bunker prices
DEKEL · DE · Major bunkering hub · Emission Control Area · EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime apply
Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Kiel, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.
Why there is no assessment here yet
Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.
No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.
Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Kiel
Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.
Bunkering at Kiel is mainly done at berth: UTG's Kiel 1 tank farm sits at the eastern canal end (km 96.8–97.23, just before the Holtenau Baltic locks) with its own jetty for seagoing and inland tankers up to 450 m LOA and 9.50 m draught, dispensing MGO/DMA, HFO and diesel directly from storage via pipeline; truck delivery and waste disposal are also offered. Vessels must notify the tank farm in writing via their agent at least 24 hours before arrival, complete and sign the Mooring Agreement before berthing, and observe tank farm rules (no alcohol/smoking, no discharge of water, crew PPE, mooring monitored at all times; fees per GT apply). Dan-Bunkering (Middelfart office) arranges fuel supplies along the Kiel Canal, including Brunsbüttel and Kiel. The whole area is a SECA/ECA: compliant low-sulphur fuel (e.g. MGO) or equivalent abatement is required in the Baltic/North Sea, and EU ETS allowances apply. Fresh water is available only at Kiel-Holtenau locks during locking; maximum speed in the canal is 12 km/h (6.5 kn).
- barge delivery availability
- designated anchorage bunker spots
- night/weekend delivery windows
- weather limits for bunkering
- typical stem/notice time for Dan-Bunkering deliveries
- EU ETS mechanics at this port (only general applicability confirmed)
Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.
The working behind the estimate above.
Those are prices at those ports, not at Kiel, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.
Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.
A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
Kiel bunkering FAQ
- What is the bunker price at Kiel today?
- No price is published at Kiel. The closest port where one is, is Hamburg, about 48 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $734 a tonne.
- Is Kiel a cheap bunkering port?
- Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
- Does EU ETS apply at Kiel?
- Kiel is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
