Taking fuel at Istanbul
Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.
Bunkers in Istanbul are delivered by barge; Petrol Ofisi (PO/Marine), Türkiye's leading supplier, operates 18 barges serving the domestic and transit markets and supplies foreign vessels transiting the Bosphorus, including via its Derince Terminal in the Marmara region. Bunkering may take place only at berths, wharves and anchorage areas found suitable by the port Administration, and fire-fighting crews must stand by during supply. The port regulations designate specific free anchorage areas (including one for vessels carrying dangerous goods at the southern entrance and another at the northern entrance of the Strait), and masters or agents must notify the Traffic Control Station and Harbour Master promptly of anchor position and anchoring time; ships must not anchor near buoys or between buoy lines. The Turkish Straits VTS guide confirms designated anchorage areas at the northern entrance of the Istanbul Strait, with bunkering possible in the non-dangerous-cargo area only with permission of the Harbour Master and the VTS Center. Istanbul lies within an Emission Control Area, so low-sulphur fuel (IMO 2020) applies; PO/Marine provides a free bunker quality and quantity assurance system with independent surveyors. ISO 8217:2017 products, 24/7 service.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
Istanbul bunkering FAQ
- What is the bunker price at Istanbul today?
- The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Istanbul (TRIST) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
- Is Istanbul a cheap bunkering port?
- At the last update Istanbul was showing $883/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
- Does EU ETS apply at Istanbul?
- Istanbul is outside the EU/EEA, so EU ETS does not apply to a call here in itself. It may still apply to the voyage legs if your vessel is heading to or from an EU port.
