Shenzhen is really two ports — the eastern container terminals at Yantian and the western terminals in the Pearl River estuary — and the published bunkering activity centres on Yantian. Both conventional bonded bunker fuel and LNG are supplied there under Shenzhen's international bonded-fuel regime.
Fuel comes aboard ship-to-ship from a bunker vessel that has first loaded at one of the licensed supply terminals; there are three licensed LNG bunkering supply terminals in Shenzhen with loading capacity. The notable feature at Yantian is that the terminal allows simultaneous bunkering and cargo loading/unloading, so a box ship can refuel on the berth while it works cargo instead of waiting at anchor. LNG has been delivered here by very large bunker vessels — the operation supplying a container ship at Yantian used what is described as the world's largest LNG bunker vessel.
Bonded status is the commercial point: the fuel is supplied duty-free as bonded stores, which is what makes Shenzhen attractive for international sailings. Confirm bonded eligibility and the customs paperwork with your supplier well before arrival.
- The English source covers Yantian; it does not describe how bunkering is arranged at the western Shekou, Mawan or Chiwan terminals, or at anchorage.
- No maximum stem size or advance-notice period is published on this page — that has to come from the supplier or agent.
- Whether conventional (non-LNG) bonded fuel is also delivered on the berth simultaneously with cargo, or only at anchorage, is not specified.
