BUNKERFUELPRICES

Reykjavik bunker prices

ISREY · IS · Major bunkering hub · EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime apply

Estimated · VLSFO · not observed at Reykjavik
$760–$823/MT

Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Reykjavik, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.

Why there is no assessment here yet

Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.

No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.

Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Reykjavik

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Reykjavik's harbours are run by Faxaflóahafnir (Faxaports), covering the Old Harbour, Sundahöfn and the associated quays. The port regulations set the bunkering conditions rather than the commercial terms: a vessel intending to take bunkers must first put measures in place to stop fuel reaching the sea from its decks in the event of an accident, and port staff may refuse a delivery to any vessel they judge has not taken reasonable precautions against pollution. Pilotage is compulsory for vessels over 60 m in length, and no vessel may lie to a buoy or anchor in the inner harbour without the Port Director's permission.

Physical supply is handled by Skeljungur, which operates only in Iceland and bunkers here from its oil barge Barkur, so a stem can be taken afloat as well as alongside. Iceland falls under EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime, which the charterer, not the port, has to account for.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • Faxaflóahafnir's regulations set out pollution precautions before bunkering but do not publish any maximum stem size or barge flow rate — that has to be asked of the supplier.
  • Skeljungur's public pages confirm the barge Barkur but do not publish its capacity, pumping rate, or the grades it carries.
  • The regulations do not state which quays permit alongside bunkering versus barge-only supply, nor whether bunkering afloat in Faxaflói bay is allowed and under what weather limits.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

VLSFO observed at the 6 nearest priced ports

The working behind the estimate above.

Those are prices at those ports, not at Reykjavik, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Reykjavik bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Reykjavik today?
No price is published at Reykjavik. The closest port where one is, is Bergen, about 788 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $769 a tonne.
Is Reykjavik a cheap bunkering port?
Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
Does EU ETS apply at Reykjavik?
Reykjavik is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
