Yokohama is one of the four Tokyo Bay bunkering ports, alongside Tokyo, Chiba and Kawasaki, and conventional stems - VLSFO, LSMGO and HSFO - are delivered here by barge. Availability moves with the market: in tight spells only a limited number of suppliers offer product, prompt dates slip several days out, and earlier delivery carries premiums (recently quoted around "$20-30/mt"), so give notice rather than expecting same-day.
Alternative fuels are increasingly worked at anchorage. The multi-fuel bunker vessel Ecobunker Tokyo Bay is "capable of both Ship-to-Ship LNG and VLSFO" bunkering, and in February 2026 Yokohama saw Japan's first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering, at the "Keihin Port Yokohama District NR Anchorage", with a 498 gross-tonne supplier delivering biomethanol to a 29,969 gross-tonne carrier. LNG for a harbour tug has also been done truck-to-ship. These operations follow the operation standards set by Japan's transport ministry (MLIT).
