Chiba sits in the northeast of Tokyo Bay and is one of Japan's largest oil and industrial ports; it takes crude tankers up to roughly 314,000 dwt on about 19.2 m of draft, so a large vessel can be worked at the port's berths, and most fuel grades are listed as available (findaport). Bunkers come from the same small pool of Tokyo Bay suppliers that also serve Tokyo, Kawasaki and Yokohama, quoting VLSFO, LSMGO and HSFO.
Plan around lead time rather than price. Through August 2026 Japanese supply tightened nationally, and across the Tokyo Bay ports including Chiba only a limited number of suppliers were quoting, with earliest delivery dates pushed out well over a week and premiums charged for anything sooner (engine.online). Confirm your delivery window with the supplier early and do not assume a prompt stem.
