BUNKERFUELPRICES

Helsinki bunker prices

FIHEL · FI · Major bunkering hub · Emission Control Area · EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime apply

Estimated · VLSFO · not observed at Helsinki
$550–$596/MT

Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Helsinki, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.

Why there is no assessment here yet

Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.

No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.

Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Helsinki

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Helsinki sits within the Emission Control Area, with EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime in force. Section 8 of the Harbour Regulations sets the notice period: ship-to-ship bunkering must be reported to the Port of Helsinki 24 hours before it starts, and bunkering from a road tanker must be notified to the port in good time beforehand. Any firm supplying bunkers needs port authorisation and must meet Regulation (EU) 2017/352; LNG bunkering additionally requires a joint risk mapping by the port, the shipping company and the supplier.

The port's safety provisions govern the operation itself: hot work and smoking are prohibited on the adjacent quay during bunkering, scuppers must be plugged and drip trays set, a red flag or light is shown, and the road-tanker driver must remain by the vehicle throughout. Any spill means ceasing at once and calling Helsinki VTS on VHF 71. No maximum stem is published, so agree volume and pumping rate with the supplier.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • The Harbour Regulations do not state a maximum bunker stem size.
  • They do not name which harbours (Vuosaari, West Harbour, South Harbour) permit or restrict bunkering.
  • No maximum pumping rate is published; the regulations leave rate and emergency-shutdown protocol to be agreed between ship and supplier before pumping.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

VLSFO observed at the 6 nearest priced ports

The working behind the estimate above.

Those are prices at those ports, not at Helsinki, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Helsinki bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Helsinki today?
No price is published at Helsinki. The closest port where one is, is Muuga, about 36 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $573 a tonne.
Is Helsinki a cheap bunkering port?
Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
Does EU ETS apply at Helsinki?
Helsinki is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
