BUNKERFUELPRICES

Ghent bunker prices

BEGNE · BE · Major bunkering hub · Emission Control Area · EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime apply

Estimated · VLSFO · not observed at Ghent
$649–$703/MT

Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Ghent, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.

Why there is no assessment here yet

Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.

No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.

Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Ghent

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Ghent is one of the three port areas of the cross-border North Sea Port, alongside Vlissingen and Terneuzen, and the working rule for ordinary bunkers is permissive: North Sea Port states that regular fuels can be bunkered at virtually any berth in Vlissingen, Terneuzen or Ghent, unless regulations or its Port Operations Coordination Centre say otherwise. A permit is required, applied for through the port's online form, and because the Coordination Centre can override a given berth or timing, clear the berth and window with them rather than assuming any quay is open. Alternative fuels (LNG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen) are a different regime: they are confined to dedicated zones shown on the port's bunker map, which reads green or red for each location depending on the fuel and flow rate you select. So for a conventional stem the practical steps are the permit and the Coordination Centre's clearance; for an alternative fuel, check the map for an approved Ghent-side zone first.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • No maximum stem or bunker-barge size is published on the North Sea Port bunkering page
  • The specific conditions attached to the bunkering permit form are not detailed
  • Which individual Ghent berths, if any, are restricted for regular fuels is not enumerated
  • The bunkering page does not restate the ECA 0.10 percent sulphur limit or FuelEU Maritime obligations

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

VLSFO observed at the 6 nearest priced ports

The working behind the estimate above.

Those are prices at those ports, not at Ghent, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Ghent bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Ghent today?
No price is published at Ghent. The closest port where one is, is Antwerp, about 29 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $663 a tonne.
Is Ghent a cheap bunkering port?
Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
Does EU ETS apply at Ghent?
Ghent is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
