Ghent is one of the three port areas of the cross-border North Sea Port, alongside Vlissingen and Terneuzen, and the working rule for ordinary bunkers is permissive: North Sea Port states that regular fuels can be bunkered at virtually any berth in Vlissingen, Terneuzen or Ghent, unless regulations or its Port Operations Coordination Centre say otherwise. A permit is required, applied for through the port's online form, and because the Coordination Centre can override a given berth or timing, clear the berth and window with them rather than assuming any quay is open. Alternative fuels (LNG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen) are a different regime: they are confined to dedicated zones shown on the port's bunker map, which reads green or red for each location depending on the fuel and flow rate you select. So for a conventional stem the practical steps are the permit and the Coordination Centre's clearance; for an alternative fuel, check the map for an approved Ghent-side zone first.
