Athens bunker prices
GRATH · GR · Emission Control Area · EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime apply
Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Athens, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.
Why there is no assessment here yet
Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.
No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.
Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Athens
Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.
Bunkers at Piraeus (Athens) are delivered by barge in Piraeus Roads and wider coastal waters, excluding the Piraeus general anchorage. Ex-pipeline deliveries are available at the Agioi Theodoroi refinery (Motor Oil Hellas tank farm, with private port allowing round-the-clock loading) only during cargo operations, with vessels required to confirm they can receive bunkers concurrently and that manifolds are at ship's center; ex-wharf truck delivery may also be offered where possible. Deliveries ex-pipeline use fuel-oil pumping rates of roughly 300-500 mt/hour per pump and marine gasoil around 250 mt/hour. Suppliers require a firm nomination with grades and quantities, minimum two working days' notice of the lifting date, and written ETA notices during working hours (notices after 18:00 are deemed tendered at 09:00 next working day). Deliveries are subject to weather; barges supply only within normal harbour/anchorage space and time limits, and buyers must provide a clear, safe berth and safe access (accommodation or pilot ladder). The port lies within the Mediterranean ECA (0.10% sulphur) and EU ETS applies to bunker consumption. Spillage remediation costs fall on the buyer absent delivering company negligence.
- port-authority bunkering regulations (Hellenic Coast Guard)
- night delivery allowed?
- typical stem time
- barge fleet size/capacity
- other listed suppliers' terms (Accord, Aegean, EKTHERM)
Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.
The working behind the estimate above.
Those are prices at those ports, not at Athens, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.
Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 4 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.
A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
Athens bunkering FAQ
- What is the bunker price at Athens today?
- No price is published at Athens. The closest port where one is, is Piraeus, about 3 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $818 a tonne.
- Is Athens a cheap bunkering port?
- Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
- Does EU ETS apply at Athens?
- Athens is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
