Fuel moves here by barge or road tanker; there is no bunker pipeline. Copec lists pipeline delivery only at Quintero and Cabo Negro, with barge and truck elsewhere. The barge case is tightly drawn. The maritime authority's October 2024 port decree permits going alongside a berthed ship only for vessels supplying fuel, each of which must hold its own authorisation, and then states that no going-alongside manoeuvre will be carried out at anchor. Plan around that: the bay has six designated anchor points in 30-50 metres with no length or draught limit, but you cannot take barge fuel lying at them. Bunkering is an alongside job.

Running it simultaneously with cargo is possible, not automatic. Under Empresa Portuaria Antofagasta's July 2025 service regulation the agent must notify the port before the berth is assigned and state the extra time needed; if the stem is to run alongside cargo transfer, written maritime authority authorisation is required. Without it, fuel comes out of berth time, and the port may order a ship off the berth if it is not working cargo and another vessel wants the site.

Maximum stem size is not published. Neither the port regulation nor the maritime decree states one, and no supplier publishes a current barge capacity for this port; treat any figure as unconfirmed until the supplier commits to it. Nationally, HSFO is no longer available in Chile, while VLSFO and LSMGO are, on four to seven days' notice. Manoeuvring is allowed around the clock while the buoyage is operational, but work alongside stops above 20 knots from S-SW, and winter SW winds reach 22.
