Tauranga bunker prices

Fuel reaches a ship at Tauranga three ways, and which one applies decides the plan. Mobil pipes low-sulphur marine gas oil (DMA, 10 ppm) to eight bunker points spaced along Mount Maunganui Wharf, Berth 16 among them, at rates up to 150 tonnes an hour, and supplies the same grade by road tanker to both Mount Maunganui and Sulphur Point. BP works from a bunker barge carrying about 1,150 tonnes of 0.50 per cent VLSFO and 200 tonnes of DMA, pumping the residual at 450 tonnes an hour and the distillate at 100. A barge has operated here since 2021, and the oil company that introduced it states it reaches Sulphur Point as well as the land-based refuelling berths and can fuel ships while they load or discharge, so fuel need not cost separate berth time. Everything documented is alongside; the port's information for masters describes bunker points and berths only and says nothing about supply to a ship at anchor, so do not assume a bunkers-only call without a berth.

The rule that bites comes from the regional council, not the port. Notice of an oil transfer must be given not less than three hours and not more than 96 hours before it is due to begin, and the person in charge must hold the Harbourmaster's approval before starting and again before restarting after any stoppage; the supplying company must also be signed up to a Tier 1 oil spill plan. No night bunkering restriction is published, and no maximum stem beyond the barge's own tank capacity.
