Taking fuel at Suva

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Suva is run by Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL), which both operates and regulates the port, and FPCL publishes the bunker-transfer parameters itself. It lists bunkering with a hose of "6' x 25mtrs", a diesel loading rate of "50-90t/hr", and discharge rates of "HFO 150t/hr and Diesel oil 400t/hr". The fuels named are heavy fuel oil and diesel; the same services page gives fresh water alongside the Kings and Local wharfs, so bunkering here reads as a wharfside operation rather than a barge job.

Pilotage and tug assistance are provided to FPCL tariff, and the port runs 24/7 pollution-prevention monitoring, so expect a spill watch over the transfer. Because the published rates are what the authority itself states, treat them as the port's own quoted capability, not a supplier promise, and confirm actual pumping rates with whoever brings the oil.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • FPCL does not publish a maximum stem size for Suva
  • The services page does not say whether bunkers can be delivered by barge or at anchorage, or only alongside
  • No VLSFO or MGO grade availability or fuel sulphur figures are given on the authority page
  • No maximum vessel LOA or draft for bunkering is stated on the FPCL services page

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

Nearest published price

No price is published at Suva. The closest port where one is, is Tokyo, about 3,909 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $849 a tonne.

Tokyo →

That is Tokyo's price, not this port's, and the distance is a great-circle estimate rather than a routed passage. It is here because a benchmark you can see the distance to is more use than a blank space.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.
