Taking fuel at Murmansk

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.

In Murmansk, bunkers are delivered by barge (bunkering tanker) either alongside or at anchorage/roadstead stations in the Kola Bay, without the vessel needing to berth. Murmanoil offers 'barging' of petroleum products in the Kola Bay and adjacent areas, supplying MGO (diesel) and fuel oils at anchorage positions with 24-hour operation, safety control, coordination with port structures, and laboratory-certified product quality; the company states supply from its own fleet with delivery in the Murmansk region within about 5 hours of request. RN-Bunker (Rosneft) also operates bunker tankers at Murmansk, including the modern bunker delivery tanker RN Magellan. Bunkering operations fall within the compulsory pilotage area defined by the Compulsory Regulations in the Seaport of Murmansk (Ministry of Transport Order No. 222 of 12.08.2014); pilotage applications to the Rosmorport Arctic Basin Branch are due 48 hours before arrival (inbound), 24 hours before departure (outbound), and 24 hours before moving to the roadstead for anchoring, with confirmation 2 hours before the operation. Murmansk is not inside an ECA, so IMO global 0.50% sulphur limits apply rather than 0.10% ECA limits.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • typical stem/bunkering quantity lead times per supplier
  • night bunkering restrictions if any
  • weather limits for bunker barge operations
  • whether pipeline or truck-to-ship bunkering is offered
  • current supplier list confirmation (Skadar, Gazpromneft not verified)
  • expiry of RN Magellan deployment info (2010s article)

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Murmansk bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Murmansk today?
The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Murmansk (RUMMK) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
Is Murmansk a cheap bunkering port?
At the last update Murmansk was showing $894/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
Does EU ETS apply at Murmansk?
Murmansk is outside the EU/EEA, so EU ETS does not apply to a call here in itself. It may still apply to the voyage legs if your vessel is heading to or from an EU port.
