Taking fuel at Miami

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.

PortMiami (Biscayne Bay, adjacent to Downtown Miami) is the largest bunker port in North America for cruise. Bunkers are delivered by barge alongside the vessel at its berth: Kirby Inland Marine barges (up to 20,000 barrels) are filled at the TransMontaigne bulk fuel terminal (672,669 barrels capacity, stocking ECA-grade MGO, HSFO/RMG and VLSFO, blended on-site) and transfer fuel to vessels at their berths, taking roughly 4 hours per cruise ship. Cruise ships typically bunker Fridays–Mondays; cargo ships any day. Suppliers including Dan-Bunkering (via its Houston-based Dan-Bunkering America) and Caribbean Fuels offer MGO, VLSFO, HSFO and ULSD, with 24/7 service. The port lies within a North American Emission Control Area, so low-sulphur fuels apply. Port tariff rules prohibit anchoring or obstructing turning basins/channels except in emergencies, require proper lights at night, and require berth applications in advance; unauthorized berthing or unapproved shifts may incur assessments or forced relocation at owner's risk.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Miami bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Miami today?
The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Miami (USMIA) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
Is Miami a cheap bunkering port?
At the last update Miami was showing $948/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
Does EU ETS apply at Miami?
Miami is outside the EU/EEA, so EU ETS does not apply to a call here in itself. It may still apply to the voyage legs if your vessel is heading to or from an EU port.
