Bunkers in Houston are delivered by barge along the Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay (including Bolivar Roads anchorages), or by truck at selected berths; dockside and midstream (tug-and-barge-to-vessel) options are offered. Suppliers commonly provide VLSFO, HSFO/MGO and LSMGO/ULSD, with product sourced from the large Houston–Corpus Christi refining complex. The port lies inside the North American ECA, so low-sulphur fuel applies. Nomination of 3–5 days is typical. VTS/pilot rules govern bunkering at docks that constrict the channel: prior VTS approval is required at listed restricted locations, an attending towboat must be present, a wheelhouse watch maintained, VHF Ch 13 (or the VTS sector channel) monitored, no double-ups, and vessels must be ready to stop, disconnect or move within 60 minutes on a Pilot's request. Some docks carry extra limits (e.g. no simultaneous bunkers at certain terminals; beam/configuration caps). Anchorage dwell limits apply (e.g. 48-hour max at some anchorages). Hurricane season (June–November) can close the port for days; winter fog may delay operations.
