Taking fuel at Long Beach
Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-09-02.
Long Beach, part of the San Pedro Bay 'Twin Ports' complex with Los Angeles, is the second-busiest US seaport and a major US West Coast bunkering hub. Bunkers are delivered by barge (at anchorage in San Pedro Bay or alongside at berth), with pipeline/truck delivery available at selected berths. The port lies within the North American Emission Control Area, so vessels must burn fuel with a 0.10% sulphur cap within 200 nm offshore; the market is therefore dominated by ECA-compliant LSMGO, with VLSFO and limited HSFO also available. California's CARB at-berth rules additionally require shore power or equivalent emission controls for certain vessel types, affecting auxiliary consumption and hotelling bunker scheduling. Typical nomination lead time is 3-5 days, though longer lead times are recommended as availability varies with demand. Fog from May to August can delay barge movements, and terminal labor actions periodically disrupt schedules. Weather is otherwise stable year-round.
- night bunkering restrictions
- designated bunkering areas per port authority
- typical stem/barge transfer time
- max barge delivery rate
Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
Long Beach bunkering FAQ
- What is the bunker price at Long Beach today?
- The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Long Beach (USLGB) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
- Is Long Beach a cheap bunkering port?
- At the last update Long Beach was showing $895/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
- Does EU ETS apply at Long Beach?
- Long Beach is outside the EU/EEA, so EU ETS does not apply to a call here in itself. It may still apply to the voyage legs if your vessel is heading to or from an EU port.
