Taking fuel at Kingston

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Kingston's edge is that the fuel is made on the spot: VLSFO, HSFO and low-sulphur MGO are refined locally at Petrojam's Kingston refinery and carried out to ships by bunker barge. Since 1 June 2025 that barge has been operated by Scott Petroleum, a local supplier of more than twenty years, now supplying fuel for TFG Marine at both the Port of Kingston and Jamaica's north coast (TFG Marine). Because it is barge-delivered from local supply, Kingston can top a vessel up without breaking its transshipment routine.

The port itself handles roughly 2,500 vessels a year and is built around one large container/transshipment terminal plus smaller berths for tankers, general cargo and bulk carriers (Dan-Bunkering). What the published sources do not tell you is whether the barge comes alongside at the berth or works you at anchorage, what notice the supplier wants, or the maximum stem the barge can lift in one visit. Those are supplier and agent questions, not port-published figures, so confirm them before you count on a big stem here.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • Whether the barge delivers alongside at berth or at anchorage is not published in the sources I read.
  • No notice period is published.
  • No maximum or minimum stem size is published.
  • Designated bunkering anchorage areas within Kingston Harbour are not confirmed by any authoritative page I fetched.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Kingston bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Kingston today?
The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Kingston (JMKIN) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
Is Kingston a cheap bunkering port?
At the last update Kingston was showing $882/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
Does EU ETS apply at Kingston?
Kingston is outside the EU/EEA, so EU ETS does not apply to a call here in itself. It may still apply to the voyage legs if your vessel is heading to or from an EU port.
