Port Hedland is Pilbara Ports Authority's iron-ore export giant, taking ships up to roughly 320,000 DWT, and it is built around loading rather than bunkering. Access is a single dredged channel about 22 miles long that admits only one large ship at a time; laden capesize departures are tide-restricted, and the ten-mile stretch nearest the port has strong tidal flows in confined water. That single-lane, tide-gated channel, not fuel supply, is the operational constraint that governs your call. On the fuel side, the published development is LNG: Pilbara Ports executed Australia's first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering licences to Woodside at Port Hedland and Dampier, supported by a 50 percent port-dues discount for LNG-bunkering bulkers introduced from 1 July 2020.
