Ponta Delgada bunker prices

$754–$816/MT

Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Ponta Delgada, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.

Why there is no assessment here yet

Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.

No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.

Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Ponta Delgada

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Ponta Delgada takes bunkers at the quay rather than by a dedicated bunker barge. According to the local agent's port information, gasoil can be delivered three ways: by pipeline at about 100 m3 per hour, by 20 m3 tank truck at roughly 12 m3 per hour, or by a tug at anchorage carrying up to 90 m3, again around 12 m3 per hour and only when the prevailing weather allows and the Harbour Master authorises it. Fuel oil, listed as IFO up to 180 cSt, is supplied by pipeline at about 140 m3 per hour, so the heavy grade is pipeline-fed while the truck and tug routes are the gasoil options. Bunkering is done at the commercial berths, numbered 4, 6, 10 and 12 plus the NATO berth, where maximum draught is 10.50 m. Pilotage is compulsory with one hour's notice, the pilot boarding half a mile south of the breakwater. As an Azores call under EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime, budget the emissions accounting for the voyage leg; and note the truck and tug rates mean a large gasoil parcel will take many hours.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • The agent's port information does not state a maximum stem size, only hourly delivery rates.
  • It lists IFO up to 180 cSt and gasoil but does not confirm whether VLSFO 0.50% or 0.10% low-sulphur MGO is stocked.
  • It gives a one-hour notice for pilotage but no separate advance-notice period for a bunker nomination.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

VLSFO observed at the 6 nearest priced ports

The working behind the estimate above.

Those are prices at those ports, not at Ponta Delgada, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Ponta Delgada bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Ponta Delgada today?
No price is published at Ponta Delgada. The closest port where one is, is Las Palmas, about 774 nautical miles away — VLSFO at $761 a tonne.
Is Ponta Delgada a cheap bunkering port?
Whether a port is cheap for your vessel depends on the deviation cost, not just the headline price — reaching a cheaper port costs charter hire and fuel.
Does EU ETS apply at Ponta Delgada?
Ponta Delgada is in the EU/EEA, so voyages to, from and within it fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, and FuelEU Maritime applies to ships of 5,000 GT and above. That adds a real per-tonne cost that a headline bunker price does not show.
