Ponta Delgada takes bunkers at the quay rather than by a dedicated bunker barge. According to the local agent's port information, gasoil can be delivered three ways: by pipeline at about 100 m3 per hour, by 20 m3 tank truck at roughly 12 m3 per hour, or by a tug at anchorage carrying up to 90 m3, again around 12 m3 per hour and only when the prevailing weather allows and the Harbour Master authorises it. Fuel oil, listed as IFO up to 180 cSt, is supplied by pipeline at about 140 m3 per hour, so the heavy grade is pipeline-fed while the truck and tug routes are the gasoil options. Bunkering is done at the commercial berths, numbered 4, 6, 10 and 12 plus the NATO berth, where maximum draught is 10.50 m. Pilotage is compulsory with one hour's notice, the pilot boarding half a mile south of the breakwater. As an Azores call under EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime, budget the emissions accounting for the voyage leg; and note the truck and tug rates mean a large gasoil parcel will take many hours.
