Taking fuel at Busan

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Busan is one of Asia's largest bunker hubs and a supplier will quote it as a barge-and-truck port: fuel goes on ship-to-ship from barges, whether you are alongside a container berth or waiting at an anchorage, with road-tanker delivery also available. The grades routinely lifted are VLSFO, LSMGO and HSFO, and LNG and bio-MGO are offered as well. The number to press a supplier on is lead time, which moves week to week with regional demand and weather: recent ENGINE availability outlooks put recommended lead times around 3–7 days at the easier end, but they widened to as much as 4–11 days when disruption at Chinese ports pushed demand across to Korea. Weather is the standing brake — this is a typhoon coast, and suppliers routinely confirm stems only subject to weather, with delays flagged at Busan during storm windows. Book early and keep the stem flexible on both timing and quantity.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • No public maximum-stem figure for Busan was found on a port-authority or supplier page.
  • Whether STS barge bunkering at a Busan anchorage needs a specific Busan Port Authority permit or anchorage assignment could not be confirmed from a primary source.
  • The widely-reported LNG and methanol bunkering buildout at Busan New Port could not be confirmed from a fetched primary page, so its capacities and timeline are left out.
  • The quoted lead times are a recent-weeks snapshot, not a standing figure — they will have moved by the time of the call.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.

Busan bunkering FAQ

What is the bunker price at Busan today?
The table above shows the latest indicative prices at Busan (KRPUS) for each grade we track, updated daily. These are market indications, not offers — the price you pay depends on quantity, delivery window, specification, your payment terms and your credit position with the supplier.
Is Busan a cheap bunkering port?
At the last update Busan was showing $1050/MT for VLSFO. Whether that is genuinely cheap for your vessel depends on deviation: reaching a port that is $10/MT cheaper is not a saving if it costs a day of charter hire and the fuel burned getting there.
Does EU ETS apply at Busan?
Busan is outside the EU/EEA, so EU ETS does not apply to a call here in itself. It may still apply to the voyage legs if your vessel is heading to or from an EU port.
