Dakar sits at the westernmost point of Africa and the port authority markets that position as a natural bunkering call for cargo ships. Fuel is taken in the Hydrocarbon Zone, which the authority describes as an oil wharf at Mole 9 plus the North Pier, with two stations of 235 m and 267 m alongside a dredged depth of -12 m referenced to hydro zero; the petroleum terminal is operated in part by Sea Invest (Terminal Petrolier de Dakar). The authority's own figures put the hydrocarbon fuelling network at 213 outlets over 10 stations, capable of delivering about 250 t/h to a ship and up to 1,000 t/h per station.
Access is straightforward: a marked channel 250 m wide dredged to -13 m inside and -13.5 m outside, a turning circle of 500 m diameter, and a small tide of 0.2–1.9 m allow entry at any state of tide, with the outer harbour sheltered by Gorée island and a breakwater. Note the fresh-water supply figures on the same page (floating tanks of 220–400 t) govern water, not fuel.
