BUNKERFUELPRICES

Douala bunker prices

CMDLA · CM · Major bunkering hub

Estimated · VLSFO · not observed at Douala
$700–$820/MT

Arithmetic on the 6 nearest ports where a price was observed, weighted by distance. Nobody has quoted this at Douala, and it carries nothing about the barge, the volume or your credit — which is what actually sets the number.

Why there is no assessment here yet

Only 0 observations in the last 72 hours. We publish an assessment from 3 or more.

No price is published for this port yet. Our assessment is built only from what we observe here — prices suppliers submit to us, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that close — so it appears once this port has traffic. A request raised now still reaches suppliers; it does not wait for an index.

Our own assessment, computed from observations made on this platform: prices submitted by suppliers, quotes received against requests raised here, and stems that closed. Weighted by how firm each observation is (a closed stem counts three times a list price), by how recent it is, and by parcel size. Values more than 15% from the median are excluded. No third-party assessment is used as an input, and no number is published from fewer than three observations or fewer than two independent sources.

Taking fuel at Douala

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

Douala lies at the end of a single access channel running roughly 50 km up the Wouri River from the Gulf of Guinea. Gard, the P&I insurer, describes the channel as narrow — 150 m at its widest — and shallow, with a minimum charted depth of about 6.1 to 6.5 m and only some 6.2 m above chart datum; depths just outside the channel fall to 2.5 m and sand and mud banks shift constantly. Gard logged at least eight groundings there from May 2014 and urges particular caution once arrival draft passes 8 m, because real depths often differ from the charts. Tides of 0.3 to 2.9 m mean deep vessels work to the tide.

The port guide lists maximum drafts of 11.5 m for containers and Ro-Ro but 9.5 m for tankers and bulk, with berths on both the Douala and Bonaberi banks of the river. Bunkers are listed as available, but no delivery method or stem size is published — settle both with your supplier and agent before fixing.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • Neither source published by the port authority (PAD) states a bunker delivery method (barge or road tanker) or a maximum stem size.
  • No official tidal-window or draft-against-tide table was located; Gard warns that charted channel depths are often unreliable and shift with silting.
  • Whether pilotage is compulsory and night transit permitted was not confirmed from a port-authority source; Gard notes only that pilots sometimes board after vessels have already proceeded upstream.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

VLSFO observed at the 6 nearest priced ports

The working behind the estimate above.

Those are prices at those ports, not at Douala, and the distances are great-circle rather than routed. The estimate above is arithmetic on them — it carries no information about the barge, the volume or your credit, which is what actually sets the number. A request is the only way to get a real one.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.

Indicative, delivered basis. Source: a licensed feed. Not an offer to sell — a firm price exists only once a supplier has quoted.

A lower headline price at another port is not automatically a saving. Deviation burns fuel and charter hire, and a bunker-only call costs port time.
