Taking fuel at Tema

Operational notes, from the port authority and the suppliers’ own published documents. Checked 2026-08-31.

At Tema the port authority (GPHA) states bunkers can be taken in port, at anchorage or offshore, with Aegean Bunkering Services Ltd named as the provider. The anchorage is large, with depths from 6 to 54 metres; vessels waiting there must notify Tema Port Control for access. The port has 21 berths with draughts from 8.2 to 16 metres, and Terminal 3, the dedicated container terminal, can take ships up to 366 m LOA and 16 m draught. If you bunker alongside the oil terminal, note that berth accommodates tankers up to 244 m with a maximum draught of 9.7 m, and tankers there must deploy fire wires and rig a floating boom. Towage is compulsory in the harbour, worked by five tugs (three of 60 tonnes and two of 80 tonnes bollard pull). Weather is the usual limiter: GPHA notes moderate to long southwest swells during the April-September monsoon, most pronounced within five cables of the breakwater head, which can make anchorage transfers uncomfortable.

Not published anywhere we could find
  • GPHA does not publish a maximum bunker stem size.
  • The GPHA pages read do not state whether barge bunkering is permitted alongside the container berths during cargo operations.
  • The status of the proposed offshore ship-to-ship bunkering zone outside Tema is not confirmed in the official GPHA pages read.

Ask the supplier to confirm these before you fix a stem on them.

Las Palmas →

That is Las Palmas's price, not this port's, and the distance is a great-circle estimate rather than a routed passage. It is here because a benchmark you can see the distance to is more use than a blank space.

Indicative only. Typical stem time here is about 8 hours alongside.
