Port Moresby is one of the six compulsory-pilotage ports operated by PNG Ports Corporation, so a pilot is part of any commercial call here. On the bunker side, Clipper Oil, one of the suppliers listed at the port, offers three ways of getting product aboard: by barge, by pipeline, and by road tanker, drawing on the Napa Napa depot across the harbour and the POM terminal. The grades it lists run to MGO, VLSFO, HSFO and ULSD, so a low-sulphur stem can be lifted here rather than carried in.
For smaller diesel and fresh-water parcels, Argo Marine keeps its own bunker and fresh-water points at Paga Wharf inside Port Moresby Harbour, geared to marine diesel and water rather than heavy grades. Match the method to the stem, barge alongside for a sizeable heavy-fuel lift and truck for a modest diesel parcel, and settle berth suitability and timing with your agent before arrival, because the operational thresholds are not published online.
- PNG Ports lists Port Moresby among its six compulsory-pilotage ports but does not publish the vessel-size threshold or the notice period for compulsory pilotage.
