Freeport is a bunkering port in its own right, built around the Bahamas Oil Refining Company (BORCO) terminal. Per Freeport Ship Services' harbour notes, complete bunkering is provided by BORCO either at its two offshore mooring jetties or from barges, at anchor or alongside in port, and bunkers are also taken at Bunker Point Berth No. 2. So a stem can be worked alongside your berth, at the offshore jetties, or off the entrance.
Water is deep. The entrance channel carries 52.5 feet at mean low water, and the outer jetty holds up to 96 feet alongside, enough for the very large tankers BORCO handles. Inside, the turning basin runs about 32 feet at most berths, with Basin 3 shallower at 25 feet. Anchorage lies roughly 2,500 feet northwest of the entrance for about a mile and a half, sheltered from southwesterly and northerly winds over a bottom of lime and coral rock under sand. Pilotage is compulsory for nearly all vessels, and the tidal range averages only three feet, so the tide gives little help.
