Bunkering at Venice is carried out by bunker barge (bettolina). Petromar S.r.l. operates a fleet of 14 tankers delivering HS and VLS fuel oil, diesel and lubricants, both to vessels on behalf of oil majors and to shore stations; since 2006 it has used double-hull tankers. San Marco Petroli's Marghera depot supports bunkering via pipeline to barges, handling vessels up to 30,000 tonnes at its jetties on the southern industrial canal. Port-authority tariffs set operational conditions: a three-hour 'call right' covers each delivery, with extra charges of EUR 59/hour thereafter; a barge may idle alongside for a maximum 60 minutes before EUR 118/hour surcharges apply; day services run 06:00-22:00 with surcharges of 50-100% at weekday edges and weekends, night services (22:00-06:00) at five times the call right; holiday requests must be lodged by 16:00 the prior (or preceding Friday) day; cancellations under 24h notice are charged. Venice lies in an ECA, so low-sulphur fuel applies, and EU ETS/FuelEU Maritime compliance applies - Enilive has begun HVO barge deliveries (stems up to 400 t) here since February 2026.
